The Demars: Veriläiskiä
7"
Sold out

12 songs by about 8 and 12 year old boys from Pori, Finland. Some may remember this city as home of the hypno-rockers Circle. But this is far from hypnotism. Powerful pre-teenage disaster screaming, hysterical yelling and manic cursing meets the Marshall guitar and Urpo - the fastest drum machine in the World. The Demars has recorded over 500 songs during 1994-97 and here are the very best of them. File under fantastic and mind blowing improvised hard core punk.

The story of the Demars

------------------------------------

"Jumalauta. Think Kaivosurma, think Lörsson, think Silver!! Silti tämä ei kuulosta miltään noista. Onnekseen. Musiikissa minua on aina viehättänyt rehellisyys ja sydämellisyys. Ja into. The Demarsin kuuntelu on vähän kuin lukisi Seppo-lehteä."

"OK, so this is demented hardcore and not jazz. The mythologizing liner notes speak of “the joy of improvisation and making a racket,” but that’s what Albert Ayler did so well, and Yakastuma Eye has made a damn fine career out of making a racket. Supposedly made by two adolescent cousins, the eight-year old lead singer spews tantrum-like stream of consciousness lyrics over speed metal drum machine beats and flailing feedback punk riffs. The Demars is kind of record that culture mavens point to and say, “See how our children are being corrupted!” They should instead be happy that the little rugrats have a hobby. I say it’s all good, demented fun."

"The Demars were an improvising hardcore punk outfit from Pori, Finland (same hometown as Circle), who existed between 1994-97. Supposedly they recorded over 450 songs during their life cycle, and a dozen of best are on The Demars (Lal Lal Lal 15 7"). The tunes are built around primitive guitar riffs, splatting rhtyhm box action, and vocals that sound like they were recorded in a sandbox. What results is something very much like a good (even great) version of those kiddie punk groups from California that always looked so promising on paper, but sounded so loathsome on the turntable. This stuff is obviously being created at about ten times the speed of thought, and the wildness with which it flies from my speakers is a testament to the sheer recklessness of youth."

- Byron Coley / The Wire
